Woman hit on Blvd.
succumbs to injuries
A woman struck by a car while crossing Roosevelt Boulevard with her great-grandson in September has died of her injuries.
Mabel Rose Taylor, 68, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday in a Montgomery County hospital. She suffered fractures in her legs and face, among other injuries, during the Sept. 26 incident.
On that morning, Taylor and her great-grandson, Shane Philson, 7, were struck while crossing the Boulevard at Lott Street after getting off a SEPTA bus. Taylor was taking the youngster to the Anne Frank Elementary School in Bustleton.
Shane died 30 minutes later. Taylor was admitted to Frankford Hospital, Torresdale Campus, and several weeks ago was transferred to Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, Montgomery County.
The driver of the car, Boris Charnis, 66, of Southampton, had run a red light before hitting the pair, police said at the time. He was charged in October with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault and related charges.
Taylor and Shane traveled by bus to the Northeast from Mount Airy, where they lived. Philson formerly lived in Bustleton but moved in with Shane and her daughter after a judge removed him from his mothers care in 2005.
Information was not immediately available from the Philadelphia District Attorneys Office on whether Taylors death would lead to additional charges against Charnis.
