Drug bust
in Frankford

As the second weekend of action in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament was about to get underway last Thursday, Philadelphia police unleashed their own version of "March Madness" on alleged drug dealers in Frankford.
That’s what narcotics officers and FBI agents dubbed their daylong series of raids in the neighborhood that netted 21 arrests and more than $100,000 worth of drugs.
The operation reportedly grew out of civilian complaints about drug activity, as well as information developed by undercover police investigators. The raids lasted from about 6 a.m. to about 5 p.m. and covered an area east of Frankford Avenue and south of Bridge Street in Frankford.
Drugs allegedly seized included more than 20 pounds of marijuana, as well as cocaine and crack. ••
