The 2nd Police District Advisory Council announced two upcoming community events at its March meeting.
The first is a child fingerprinting event, which takes place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Acme Market, 6640 Oxford Ave.
Children over age 2 can get fingerprinted and photographed with a child identification kit. Parents can then take the kit home.
Kids can also enjoy face painting, see a fire truck and participate in other activities. Acme will provide free refreshments throughout the store.
The group is also planning its annual "Stop the Violence" bike ride and community day. The event takes place Saturday, June 23, at Roosevelt Mall in conjunction with the malls sidewalk sale.
Activities include child fingerprinting, bike registration and S.A.V.E. VIN etching for automobile owners.
Representatives from several city agencies will also be on hand to provide information to community members.
In other news from the March 13 meeting:
o The group also heard from Matthew Craddock, construction services supervisor from the citys Department of Licenses and Inspections. He oversees the construction unit for the L&I office at Rising Sun Avenue and Benner Street.
o The group also honored 2nd district officers Keith Shackles and George Schweizer as the Officers of the Month.
On Jan. 11 at 6:50 p.m., the officers responded to a burglary in progress on the 4000 block of Roosevelt Blvd.
There they apprehended one suspect while the other fled on foot and was later caught by other officers.
Police found drugs and both real and counterfeit money on the suspects. They also found a license plate stolen from a car at the burglary victims home along with a car remote and a jewelry case.
The 2nd Police District Advisory Council next meets on Tuesday, April 10, at 7 p.m., at Glading Memorial Presbyterian Church, Cheltenham and Loretto avenues.
