A 50-year puzzle
A decade ago, the Boy in the Box was a largely overlooked figure in Philadelphias collective consciousness.
He was not forgotten, to be sure.
Yet, even the local folks old enough to remember seeing the ominous image of the dead youngsters visage in the late 1950s and early 60s mostly didnt concern themselves with the mystery of his death anymore.
In the words of Bill Kelly, a former Philadelphia Police Department civilian investigator, after a while, the Boy in the Box "became a truly cold case." . . .

Something about the pending closing of Jeanes Hospitals maternity ward doesnt add up. No, its not the claim by the hospitals parent company that its financial losses are such that it must end business as usual and close its baby-making unit on May 31.
Have hospital officials done everything EVERYTHING in their power to keep the maternity ward open, or are they trying to take the easy way out, opting to quit while theyre behind? . . .
