Lawncrest shoots
down pool hall

The Lawncrest Community Association last week voted to oppose a proposed pool hall at 5699 Rising Sun Ave.
Owner Tran Minh Khim and attorney Patricia Talbott were scheduled to address the LCA at its monthly meeting on Feb. 20 but did not attend. The civic group knows little about the proposal except that the applicant wants to install 20 pool tables in what was once a dollar store.
The congregation at Crescentville Baptist Church has also signed a petition to oppose the pool hall.
In other news, the Greater Overbrook String Band has agreed to perform as part of the Lawncrest 4th of July parade.
The celebration committee is seeking volunteers. Write to lawncrestjuly4th@comcast.net
State Rep. Dwight Evans (D-203rd dist.) will hold office hours on Thursday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Salvation Army Citadel, at 5830 Rising Sun Ave. Constituents are asked to enter on Alcott Street.
The LCA will meet again on Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m., at St. William parish hall, at Argyle and Robbins streets.
