Shes a Friend indeed
In parish grade schools in Northeast Philadelphia and around the world, Catholic children are taught about the lives of the saints, about the holy men and women, who in Gods name are exceptionally kind and charitable to those less fortunate and who are held up as examples of how to live your life.
Rita Ungaro-Schiavone, 72, has also dedicated her life to serving others. The Aid For Friends founder recently retired as executive director of the organization. Its mission is to help its homebound client/friends maintain their cherished independence by supporting their determination to remain in their homes for as long as possible and to enhance their quality of life. . . .

Its been nearly five years since a certain big-city mayor named John Franklin Street boasted at a convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People that "the brothers and sisters are running the city."
That obscenely racist statement to a race-based group and other missteps notwithstanding, however, Mayor Street has not done nearly as poorly as many had feared. But love him or hate him, in 11 short months Philadelphians will no longer have him to kick around. From a purely entertainment standpoint, though, if were lucky, the mayor will get his wish; we will have another "brother running the city" . . .
