Love grows on trees

If trees could talk, one standing by the sidewalk on the 9500 block of State Road would tell quite a story.
On Nov. 21, 2004 at around 4 a.m., 21-year-old Northeast native Nicole Lee Schwartz, known as Nikki to friends and family, parked her car by that tree, not far from Grant Avenue. She got out and stood near her car as she waited for friends.
She never saw the car driven by Bensalem resident Matthew Rowan, then 22 and drunk, as it sped along State Road. His vehicle struck a parked car, caromed into her, and hit a tree.
Matthew Rowan was tossed from his car and had minor injuries. Nikki Schwartz died instantly.
Since her death, a memorial composed of photographs, signs and stuffed animals continues to mount at the tree marking the accident site. . .

Keep it up

The folks who are trying to remove from the 9500 block of State Road all of the photographs, signs and stuffed animals that serve as loving tributes to accident victim Nikki Schwartz are wrong, dead wrong, and should be ashamed of themselves. Any neighbor, passing motorist, or city or state official with a heart and soul has to feel for Nikki’s family, friends and other loved ones . . .
