On a prayer

The year 2006 was a hard one for Mercedes Gubicza.
The Mayfair woman lost her daughter and caregiver, Sister Paul Mercedes Perreca, to a hit-and-run car accident in January.
Then, in June, her husband Andy died.
And despite an intense focus by police, the driver of the vehicle that killed her daughter has not been captured.
Gubicza can’t believe the driver’s conscience hasn’t gotten the best of him or her. If she’d been in the same situation, she wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
Nonetheless, Gubicza isn’t preoccupied with whether the driver is ever apprehended.
"What I want I can’t have," she said, referring to her daughter. . .
