Editorial for December 14, 2006 edition:

Kill him already!

In this semi-civilized country, a defendant’s right to appeal his death sentence following his murder conviction is guaranteed by the Constitution. It’s the American way, and no true-blue American would want it any other way. Depriving a criminal, even convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, of the right to have his case work its way through various appeals courts over several years would be very wrong.

However, Mumia, as his "friends" call him, has had his day in court. He’s had his quarter-century in court. That 25 years have come and gone and Officer Daniel Faulkner’s killer is still living and breathing is a gross travesty of justice.

Mumia Abu-Jamal is a despicable piece of garbage, a poor excuse for a human being that should have been executed 20 years ago. But 25 years after pumping a bullet into Officer Faulkner’s head following a car stop in Center City, what makes Mumia’s continued existence so tough to take is his star status among the Hollywood elite, including famed actor Ed Asner, who did a fabulous job impersonating Lou Grant on TV, but who — along with his pro-Mumia colleagues from the world of entertainment including Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg, Spike Lee and Paul Newman — are doing rotten jobs impersonating compassionate human beings.

These bleeding-heart liberals know nothing about the Faulkner case. If they love Mumia so much, how much of their millions of dollars have they given to his legal defense? And would they take him in as a roommate if his conviction were overturned?

A sizable chunk of Philadelphia’s police force calls Northeast Philly home, and for these men and women in blue — and all law-abiding citizens everywhere — the time for Mumia Abu-Jamal to redeem his one-way ticket to hell cannot come too soon. When that great day comes, let’s hope he suffers a torturous death. ••
