Central snaps Frankfords
37-game win streak
The Frankford High School baseball team has experienced plenty of success.
The Pioneers came into their May 1 contest against Central riding a 37-game Public League winning streak. In fact, their last loss occurred during the 2004 season, when they lost a regular-season game to Northeast. Prior to that, they hadnt lost since the 2002 playoffs, dropping a semifinal game to the eventual champs, GAMP.
The Frankford team had won 79 of 81 games and three straight Public League championships.
A bid for a fourth straight title is still alive. But the Pioneers winning streak isnt.
Behind the strong pitching of Northeast resident Jared Farbman, Centrals Lancers down the Pioneers, 5-4, in their May 1 Public League game.
Farbman went the distance, allowing just five hits and striking out six. He allowed three runs in the first inning, but settled down and allowed just one more in the fourth.
With the loss, Frankford fell to 10-1 on the season, still a game ahead of the 9-2 Lancers.

NFL DRAFT
Three football players with local ties are about to begin their professional careers.
Frankford grad and Bloomsburg senior Jahri Evans was the only local player drafted. The 6-foot-4, 325-pound offensive lineman went to the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the NFL entry draft.
While Evans was the only player to get the call during the draft, two other players inked free-agent deals after the selection process was over.
Roman Catholic grad and Penn State senior defensive tackle Scott Paxon signed a free-agent contract with the Super Bowl champs, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The 6-foot-4, 282-pound defensive tackle is a Juniata native.
Also getting a free-agent deal was George Washington grad and current Lafayette senior Maurice Bennett, who signed with the Chicago Bears.
Bennett, a 5-foot-10, 240-pound linebacker, had 133 tackles, 13 tackles for losses, and seven sacks for the Leopards last year.
