Four injured in pair
of accidents on I-95

Four people were injured, including one critically, in two related automobile crashes on Friday night along Interstate 95, just south of the Academy Road exit, according to the Philadelphia Police Department’s accident investigation division.
Peter Martinez, 35, of the 7000 block of Cottage St. in Tacony, was the driver of a 2002 Lincoln Town Car limousine involved in a two-vehicle accident shortly before 10:45 p.m. on the southbound side of the highway, said Sgt. George Golden.
After the initial crash, Martinez exited his vehicle apparently to check on the condition of occupants in the second car, a 1997 Toyota Camry that was blocking the right-hand lane.
Moments later, a southbound 1988 Chevy Nova driven by Jeremy Ulrich, 30, of the 4600 block of Magee Ave. in Tacony, struck both Martinez and the Toyota, sending the limo driver crashing through the windshield of the Toyota, Golden said.
Martinez was taken to Frankford Hospital’s Torresdale Campus in critical condition. His status early this week was not available.
In addition, Ulrich and a juvenile male passenger in his car were taken to Frankford-Torresdale for treatment of cuts and abrasions, while a rear seat passenger in the limo was taken to the same hospital for treatment of neck and back pain.
Further details about the first crash were unavailable early this week, but the driver of the Toyota, Daniel McCashin, 46, of the 9300 block of Treaty Road in Academy Gardens, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Golden said. ••
