WOW . . . Mayfair rink
changes owners

The WOW Family Fun Center is no more.
Now, the facility at 7017 Roosevelt Blvd. is called the Jamz Rollerskating Center.
Mike Slaven, a former WOW regional manager, purchased the place from his former bosses.
Slaven, who has a business partner, will keep the skating rink, games and rides.
The transaction is welcome news for the Mayfair Civic Association, which hopes Jamz returns to the days of United Skates of America, which operated out of the location from 1978-92.
In 1992, the owner changed the name of the place and began marketing the center to young people in different parts of the city.
Mayfair residents long complained that teenagers from WOW caused property damage and other mayhem in the neighborhood. Slaven agreed to provide additional security.
Last June, after negotiations between Slaven and Mayfair Civic Association president Scott Cummings, WOW ended its teen dances on Saturday nights.
In October, WOW instituted Mayfair Night on Fridays.
Now that a local man owns Jamz — WOW was based in Columbus, Ohio — management will market the center to local schools and residents ages 5 to 15.
Jamz will be open seven days a week. It will continue to offer birthday parties and has brought back the Saturday night dance.
On Thursdays from 5:30 to 9 p.m., kids can skate and have unlimited pizza and soda for $7.50.
Diego Ramos, of Q102-FM, will host two parties this month. And there will be an upcoming benefit skate-a-thon for Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). ••
