Behind Tankel, Eagles hold off Vikings
Mark Tankel flirted with a no-hitter until the final inning, as George Washington High School defeated Public League rival Northeast, 7-2, in an A Division contest on May 12.
Tankel allowed just two hits in earning the victory, and the offense was led by Matt Peterson, who recorded a pair of hits and drove in three runs.

Conwell-Egan, 14, Archbishop Ryan, 7: The Raiders got doubles from Nick DiEnno, Andrew Turco, Rob Fisher and Anthony Carter but still fell short in the Catholic League game.
La Salle, 5, North Catholic, 4: Chris Wenger had a pair of doubles and Derek Estell and Mike Constanine added doubles, but it wasnt enough for the Falcons.
Cardinal Dougherty, 6, Bishop McDevitt, 4: Mike Moody struck out four batters in earning the PCL victory for the Cardinals, who scored two runs in the final inning to win the game.
Father Judge, 9, Archbishop Wood, 4: Matt Compton belted two home runs, drove in four runs and pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Crusaders to victory. Dan Bucher also helped the offensive cause, adding three hits and two RBIs.
Thomas Edison, 15, Abraham Lincoln, 6: The Railsplitters were led by Josh Candelano, who had three hits and two RBIs, but Edison scored nine runs in the eighth inning to get the win. David Gibson stroked a triple for Lincoln in the loss.
Frankford, 9, GAMP, 4: Richard Jimenez struck out five batters as the Pioneers clinched the Public League A Division title for the fourth season in a row. Jimenez, Ramon Reyes and Juan Torres had doubles for Frankford to spark the offense.
Abraham Lincoln, 21, Olney, 13: Justin King drove in eight runs on a pair of home runs and Joe DiGrazio added a pair of home runs and four RBIs, making a winner of pitcher Kevin Adamson and the Railsplitters.
Roxborough, 13, Fels, 6: The Panthers fell short in the Public League contest.
Archbishop Ryan, 9, Bishop McDevitt, 2: Anthony Turco and T.J. Mihock had a pair of hits to lead the Raiders offense, and Rob Fisher struck out six batters to get the win for the Raiders.

Father Judge, 7, North Catholic, 3: Justin DeCristofaros win on the mound was aided by his three RBIs at the plate.
GAMP, 9, Lincoln, 3: The Railsplitters allowed seven runs in the final inning and ended up losing the game.
George Washington, 18, Olney, 5: Damein Wilmer smacked a grand slam and Justin Presley, the teams usual catcher, struck out six and earned the win on the mound, helping the Eagles to emerge victorious.
Frankford, 7, Northeast, 1: The Pioneers won the rematch of last years championship thanks to Edwin Burgos three-hitter. Richard Jimenez and Luis Alicea each provided three hits to spark Frankfords offensive attack.
Fels, 6, Saul, 4: Danny Gonzalez had six strikeouts and Angel Garcias home run led the Panthers offense.
Prep Charter, 15, Swenson, 1: It took Prep Charter only three innings to defeat Swenson by the mercy rule.
Father Judge, 5, Penn Charter, 2: Anthony Babiaz pitched a five-hitter as the Crusaders defeated the Inter Ac champs. Judge also got a double from Dan Bucher and a triple from Jason DAmbrosio.
Germantown Academy, 5, Archbishop Ryan, 4: The Raiders lost in 13 innings despite a pair of doubles by John Barr.
SOFTBALL
St. Hubert, 2, Archbishop Ryan, 1: Mary Hoch allowed four hits and struck out six to lead the Bambies to the Catholic League victory. Beth Bossert had an RBI triple for Huberts in the win.
Archbishop Prendergast, 4, Little Flower, 1: The Sentinels had just four hits in the PCL Southern Division setback.
Archbishop Wood, 5, Cardinal Dougherty, 2: The Vikings scored three runs in the final inning to defeat the Cardinals.
Frankford, 19, Mastbaum, 13: Fayanne Rogers hit a home run and Crystal Rodriguez added a double to lead the Pioneers to victory.
Northeast, 10, Roxborough, 5: Kelly Munro earned the win on the mound, while Brittany Sine and Brittany Melendez had doubles and Stephanie Campanaro had a triple, to lead the Vikings.
Abraham Lincoln, 12, Thomas Edison, 2: Ashley Robinson tossed a five-inning two-hitter and Jessica Cozens hit a triple to lead the Railsplitters to victory.
Archbishop Ryan, 2, Villa Joseph Marie, 1: Sara Michalowski allowed five hits in 10 innings to get the win. Michalowski and Amanda Weitman also hit home runs to account for the Ragdolls offense.
Shawnee, 4, St. Hubert, 1: The Bambies lost to the South Jersey powerhouse Renegades.

Franklin Towne Charter, 2, Girls High, 1: Artemizia Illich and Stefanie Detrich scored goals and Heather Simpson stopped 10 shots to lead Franklin Towne Charter in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
Northeast, 6, Frankford, 0: Casey Manzi and Courtney Fontaine scored two goals apiece to lead the Vikings of Northeast to the quarterfinal victory in their Public League match against the Pioneers.
