Navy Seaman Rachel Alam, daughter of Dilshad Alam of Philadelphia, and her fellow shipmates recently participated in the Navys largest deployment evolution, Summer Pulse 2004, while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
Summer Pulse 2004 is the first operational implementation of the Fleet Response Plan, which seeks to not only maximize training, manning and combat readiness, but also prove to coalition allies and enemy forces that the U.S. Navy can provide a powerful and credible presence anywhere at any time.

William J. McBride has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelors degree from the University of Delaware, Newark.

With its complement of fully integrated air and ground forces, Sauters unit is ready to conduct real-world operations including amphibious, heliborne and boat raids, tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel, noncombatant evacuation operations and humanitarian assistance operations.

Navy Seaman Recruit Jamiir A. Barbour, a 2002 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Barbour completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations. This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly Navy flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
