As the summer continues to fly by, folks in Mayfair should be very happy that this has been a season of content at the WOW Family Fun Center. That’s in sharp contrast to recent troubles involving WOW’s rowdy, rabble-rousing patrons, who wreaked havoc on the community in the late-night hours.

Coming attraction


The Devon Theater has had a troubled past, but its future is looking bright, thanks to the Mayfair Community Development Corporation’s commitment to improving the neighborhood.
Located at Frankford Avenue and Stirling Street, the Devon — shuttered and vacant since the fall of 2000 — came to life in the mid-1940s and assumed various personalities over time.
It showed feature films, independent films, adult films and even oldtime classic films as a string of owners sought the entertainment formula that would enable the Devon to survive changing times and changing tastes as neighborhood theaters faded away in a multiplex world.

Local athletes are

medalsome indeed

Although they first met just a few weeks ago, Suzanne Ahmie and Lisa Bonner have a lot in common.
The two Northeast Philadelphia women were once avid competitive swimmers at local Catholic high schools.
They needed organ transplants and received those organs from their brothers — what’s more, both brothers are named Bob.
And both are success stories, not because they won multiple medals at this year’s U.S. Transplant Games, but because they and the other athletes who participated are here today.
"I feel everybody’s a winner because they were there and able to do this," Ahmie said.
