Police nab shooting suspect

Philadelphia police last weekend captured the man who they say fired a series of gunshots inside a crowded Northeast restaurant last month during an attempted robbery.
No one was injured in the barrage of bullets shortly after 7 p.m. on July 27 in the Old Country Buffet, at 4640 Roosevelt Blvd.
Police say that the shooter was James McCoy, 37, whose last known address is 1624 Annin St. in South Philadelphia. Detectives located him on Friday morning in Marcus Hook, Delaware County, obtained a search warrant for a home there and took him into custody.
McCoy did not fight his transfer back to Philadelphia, where he remains in jail.
Investigators initially identified McCoy on a tip from his parole agent, who recognized the suspect in video surveillance footage of the shooting released to the news media on July 29.
Witnesses later confirmed the suspect’s identity from a prior police photo.
McCoy, whose criminal past was not detailed by police, is charged with multiple counts of aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment, firearms violations and related offenses.
Detectives claim he walked into the restaurant, approached a manager and complained that he had gotten sick after eating there earlier that day. When the manager walked to a rear office, the man followed, entering the office without permission.
Sensing danger, the manager pushed his way out of the office as the suspect fired a silver revolver twice.
The would-be robber then returned to the dining area, where about 200 people were dining, and fired three more shots before fleeing. ••
