Baltimore man will stand trial
for shooting three in Boulevard Lanes
A Baltimore man accused of shooting three former bowling league teammates, including his ex-girlfriend, in an apparent jealous rage, was ordered last week to stand trial for attempted murder.
The attack occurred on May 1 at the Boulevard Lanes, on the 8000 block of Roosevelt Blvd.
At about 10:15 p.m., David Lewis, 41, allegedly burst into the alley wielding a couple of baseball bats and seeking a confrontation with the ex-girlfriend, Aleta Finney, 34, of West Oak Lane, who months earlier had obtained a protection-from- abuse order against him.
When Lewis reached the lanes where the woman and her team were bowling, he allegedly dropped the bats, pulled out a .38-caliber handgun and shot the woman and a male teammate, Corey Lipford, in the neck.
As a second teammate, Marcus Howard, attempted to wrestle the weapon from Lewis, the defendant allegedly shot him in the shoulder, then fled in a car.
An off-duty Philadelphia police officer who had witnessed the attack followed Lewis out of the facility and notified uniformed officers in the area.
Members of the 15th district caught up with the suspect on the 6900 block of Torresdale Ave. There, Lewis allegedly rammed a patrol car, ran over a parking meter, struck a storefront and shot himself in the head.
All three victims and the defendant were hospitalized and recovered from their wounds.
During the Aug. 4 preliminary hearing, Finney testified that Lewis had contacted her with a series of threatening telephone calls and e-mails in the months leading up to the attack. Lewis had been a member of the Baltimore-based traveling team until he allegedly assaulted the woman early this year, prompting her to seek the protection order in Philadelphia.
Lewis will be arraigned Aug. 25 on three counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, weapons violations, stalking and related offenses.
